Women Empowerment workshop on Domestic Violence (May, 2022)

On Saturday, 21st May, URBOND Women’s Group hosted a workshop on Domestic Violence Awareness with Guest speakers Aminah Khan (Labyrinth Project Navigator) & PC Mark Pilsworth (Hampshire Constabulary). 10 ladies attended the workshop at the Charles Dickens Activity Centre, Portsmouth, PO1 4DY.
PC Mark spoke about the different types of domestic violence, shared some experiences and how it can affect people in a variety of ways and the support that can be provided.
Aminah Khan from Stop Domestic Abuse UK, spoke about the different types of domestic abuse and how it can affect people. Sadly, 1 in 4 women experience a form of domestic violence in their lifetime. Stop Domestic Abuse UK are trying to spread awareness and knowledge to help people find the courage to speak up and access the help they need.
Mark from Hampshire Constabulary then spoke about how the police deal with domestic violence cases and what happens when a call is made to the police regarding domestic violence. Mark then talked about the positive actions for getting the police involved with domestic violence, the safeguarding and signposting for victims of domestic abuse, the prosecution and what happens to the perpetrators.
Mark and Aminah concluded the workshop by explaining how important it is to spread awareness about domestic violence and asked if anyone had any questions. The group discussed many different types of domestic abuse they had witnessed or experienced within their lives and their feeling on these experiences.
Mark and Aminah then thanked everyone for attending workshop.
